While it’s technically possible to install pavers over existing concrete, it’s not always the best approach. The existing concrete needs to be in good condition, properly sloped for drainage, and structurally sound. Any existing drainage problems will remain after the pavers are installed. Installing over concrete also raises the final height of your patio, which can create issues with door thresholds, drainage, and the overall look of your outdoor space. If your concrete has cracks or settling issues, these problems will likely transfer to the new paver surface. In most cases, we recommend removing the old concrete and starting fresh. This allows us to address drainage properly, ensures a solid foundation, and gives you the best long-term results. The extra cost upfront usually saves money and headaches down the road.
